Katrina
and her husband, Greg, farm near Stapleton and have 3 children; Devan,
Payton, and Maxon. Greg's grandmother came to Nebraska in 1906 in a
covered wagon when she was 7 and moved to Stapleton in 1926 with her
husband and children. Greg and Katrina live on that land today.
I
grew up helping my mother and grandmother pick chokecherries along dirt
roads in Wyoming. My grandmother was truly famous among her family and
friends for her Chokecherry Wine. Hence, the discovery of wild chokecherries,
wild plums, and mulberries growing right outside the door from my new
Nebraska home led me on a wonderful journey. I gathered all I could
pick, made juice, and took it to grandma so she could make her "famous"
wine. It was my husband, Greg, who then suggested I should learn to
make jelly as well.
